SH or CH?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys I'm new to roof & exterior cleaning and had some questions on which cleaning agent/disinfectant is best to use. Generally I use sodium hypochlorite but have heard that calcium hypochlorite is a bit better and safer for plants but can still cause damage if untreated/rinsed! Thanks

It is true that Calcium Hypochlorite is easier on Plant Life, since there is no Sodium (Salt) left behind that you have to deal with. But it still will kill plants by contact, if not rinsed off right away, just like SH will.

That said, Calcium Hypochlorite tends to leave a very visible nasty, and hard to remove SCALE when used at roof cleaning strength, especially in areas that have hard water.

The RCIA does not recommend the use of CH for cleaning roofs. It has been tried before, with terrible results I don't feel like getting into right now.

Stick with using only SH, and  you will never go wrong, and don't believe all that you read, on certain forums, that are little more then one great big Infomercial, for stuff a certain vendor sells.

There are hundreds of the very best roof cleaners in the world here at the RCIA, and I don't know ANY roof cleaner who uses CH.

We all know better Edwin, and now, so do you :)

There are some very valuable discussions about Roof Cleaning mixes in the Members forum. If you are not a member,  you really should join. The membership fee is cheap in comparison to the sheer volume of information you will find there...enough to make your brain cramp. Most guys say their membership paid for itself 100x over.
