Blast Away Pressure Washing Report post Posted May 19, 2014 So far I've heard that Gain dish soap works great as a surfactant and as a scent masker but I've also read about products like Lemon - Aide which seem to be pretty expensive in comparison. What would you all recommend? Thank you! David Smith www.BlastAwayPressureWashing.com
Apple Roof Cleaning (813) 655-8777 Report post Posted May 20, 2014 So far I've heard that Gain dish soap works great as a surfactant and as a scent masker but I've also read about products like Lemon - Aide which seem to be pretty expensive in comparison. What would you all recommend? Thank you! David Smith www.BlastAwayPressureWashing.com The chemicals needed to hide the smell of the roof cleaning chemicals can be had below. It is always best to buy direct, but Russ Johnson at Southside Pressure Washing supplies in Louisville KY sells some lemon stuff pretty cheap Mix the fragrance and a surfactant and watch your savings grow Your suppliers are using fragrances such as Horizon Aromatics, Chemia, Nilum or FloraChem. These companies will be happy to sell directly to you. Cut out the middle man. Some of the names of these fragrances are going to sound familiar. Fragrances range from $0.25 to $14.99 per pound. (The more you pay to the manufacturer of the fragrances, the stronger the fragrance may be or better job the fragrance does of masking the sodium hypochlorite odor.) Apple Roof Cleaning (813) 655-8777 Report post Posted May 22, 2014 Chris, roughly how much could one expect to spend on masking per 100 gallons of solution not including cost of shipping? It has been a long time since we had the need to mask the scent of the roof cleaning chemicals Dave. Prices have surely changed since we tried it last, but it was like 25 - 50 dollars for a 300 gallon tank full of chemicals.
Blast Away Pressure Washing Report post Posted May 25, 2014 Here's what I've found from Horizon Aromatics. These can be mixed with SH and a surfactant like Roof Snot. Gain still seems like the most cost efficient surfactant though considering it is much cheaper than Roof Snot and gain already has scents... using Gain just makes... sense. The absolute BEST chlorine stable surfactant is Ammonyx MO (Myristamine)

Advantage Roof Cleaning Report post Posted May 29, 2014 Does Ammonyx MO only come in a powdered form or can you get it liquid? I'm looking to try some from Stepan MO does not come in powder form that I'm aware of. I use LO which is in liquid form. I did order a sample of MO once from Stepan. They did not charge me for it either.
Blast Away Pressure Washing Report post Posted July 12, 2014 Tested out some MO on a couple roofs yesterday. It definitely out performed gain but the scent masking was my issue. I used a pine smell that I got from Horizon Aromatics but it didn't mix into my mix very well. The pine seems like it was an oil that just floated to the top even when I used a strong hose tip to mix it in. If I could find a better scent-masker I'd go with MO but until then Gain is what I'll be using. I've got a 5 gallon bucket of Roof Snot but I'm guessing I'll have the same issue here. Anyone have any suggestions?

Josh Davis Report post Posted July 19, 2014 I got a sample pack from Chemia. I liked all of the cover scents that they sent me but I only tried them with ds house wash mix. The sample sizes were not large enough for a batch of Roof mix. the orange and green apple for my favorite out of the ones they sent me, but the fresh scent did the best job of covering up date chlorine smell. I actually couldn't smell bleach at all. It just smells like laundry detergent or something.

This company is great if you're looking to mix your own scents because they will ship you free samples to check out. A 1 gallon jug of Lemon-Aid or Cherry Bomb! weighs about 8 lbs. At $69.00 per gallon, that's $8.63 / lb. 4 - 8 liquid ounces in 50 gallons will completely cover the smell. If purchased 5 gallons at a time, your cost goes down to $7.48 / lb. I'm willing to give it a shot but using Gain is so much more simple than having to buy surfactants and scents and get them shipped in. I'm always willing to try something new! That's the only way to make progress.
