How do you guys tackle roofs with velux windows?

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

How do you go about cleaning a roof with velux windows (roof windows)?  I have a house with velux windows (not sure if they are called this in the US) and wondered if SH would damage these?

When I get my system built I will be trying it out on my tiled roof first but I have velux windows on the roof and wanted to check that SH won't damage the frames and seals.

Thanks in advance

Jonathan

We have what is called Skylights on roofs here in Tampa Florida, and have never damaged them.

But the roof cleaning solution can sometimes spot them, so it is a good idea to rinse them off good.

We go up after cleaning and hit them with Vinegar. Bring a squeegee, spray bottle and a rag. Leaves them squeaky clean and shiny. Vinegar is also great to take the Chlorine smell off your hands....just be aware that if you have any cuts or scrapes on said hands, the combo of salt and vinegar will build character and manliness thru suffering. We LOVE skylights since they are always full of algae around here and clients always comment how much brighter their rooms are. More than once we've been paid extra to go inside and clean the interior of the skylights ( just make ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN your shoes or ladder don't have SH on them so you don't leave permanent footprints in the carpet!).
