Green Apple Roof Cleaning Co LLC Report post Posted January 6, 2014 Does anyone have any suggestions on the proper way to clean synthetic slate roofs. The owner of the house that wants his roof cleaned does not have any information on the manufacture or brand. I was in touch with a manufacture of a similar type of shingle and they recommended power washing with a soap solution.
garyw Report post Posted January 6, 2014 I believe a normal roof cleaning solution, minus any surfactant (soap) is your best bet. Slate contains oil and can be dis-colored by usuing soap and pressure will NOT be necessary with the proper SH solution. Chris will probably be on here later to verify what I just stated. Apple Roof Cleaning (813) 655-8777 Report post Posted January 8, 2014 Does anyone have any suggestions on the proper way to clean synthetic slate roofs. The owner of the house that wants his roof cleaned does not have any information on the manufacture or brand. I was in touch with a manufacture of a similar type of shingle and they recommended power washing with a soap solution. Some slate has oil in it, and any detergent can remove this oil, and dull the roof! I would use a standard soft wash shingle roof cleaning mix of 70 percent water to 30% Chlorine, and forget the soap.
ReNew Roof & Exterior cleaning Report post Posted May 30, 2014 Would this also be true for 50+ year old slate?
