Kleen Roofs Report post Posted April 8, 2013 Found this neat little tool on google that can help measure a roof. I wouldn't use it all the time, but maybe if you have to give a quick estimate, or the job is a long way away, and you do not have any other online measuring software. It will not give the pitch, but will give the length and width.

We always just use the house SQ FT and look at it on Google Maps for roof cleaning estimates, and always add extra for a garage. More cost too if it is really steep! hickeys45 Report post Posted April 12, 2013 I'm glad this topic came up. I sometimes paint roofs (will be painting one next week weather permitting) and as someone who had nothing to do with roofing or carpentry in the past I don't know how to estimate the sq footage of a house. I would love someone to give me a simple for "dummys" way to get a ballpark estimate. Up to now I send my suppliers a few photos of the roof and they give me an estimate. I will post some photos of the job when its finished. We pressure washed it yesterday, it was in a bad way with moss and lichen. Early next week we will have to repoint the ridge tiles and replace some broken/ cracked tiles and treat with biocide to kill any moss/lichen spores that are left. Then its two coats of paint to finish. Christopher Haines Report post Posted April 14, 2013 if you google roof calculator- www.final-analysis.com/calculator should bring you to roof calculators showing lenght x width x slopr or pitch so-- 40'longx 28' wide house with a 9/12 pitch = 1400 total sq ft. Green Apple Roof Cleaning Co LLC Report post Posted January 6, 2014 That Google map measurement guide is the best. It makes my roof measurements simple and quick. I am trying to bid a private community that has many similar and dissimulator roofs. I do know the pitches but not the dimensions. Just tried it and it works great !!! Thank you for the info. RoofRescue+Repair Report post Posted September 11, 2014 If you are looking for more precise measurements you can get the exact number of squares for $18. There is a company called Eagle View Technologies that provides roof measurements for the insurance industry. When 10,000 houses get hit by hail, nobody has time to measure all of those roofs. Eagleview uses satellites to measure the roofs and you can get a basic report, called Quick Squares, for $18. Just go to http://www.eagleview.com to purchase. I wouldn't use this on every job, but is certainly worth every penny on the big roofs that are cut up and hard to measure.

Advantage Roof Cleaning Report post Posted September 17, 2014 I use www.FindLotSize.com which is even better. Simply click the perimeter points and it automatically gives you both the distance and flat area. Of course you still need to factor in the slope for the total area.
