Best methods and equipment for moss removal on asphalt shingles

I have done moss removal two different ways in the past. 

 

1. Spraying roof wash onto shingles and then returning weeks later to scrub with wire brush 

2. Applying spray and forget and not returning to scrub moss ( Ihave never returned to see the results but apparently they worked well at one site I sprayed)

 

I am trying to figure out the optimal way to remove moss that is speedy and cost effective. Does anyone have any insights?

I have sprayed the heavy moss at the very beginning of getting on the roof, let it dwell and carry on with the rest of the cleaning. The SH kills and detaches the moss and lichen then I use a stiff bristle brush to break it up and rinse it off. When I leave the job, I know it is gone, don't have to wonder.
