Have you ever wondered about roof cleaning hose ?

Not every hose can be used for cleaning roofs because the chemicals will attack and ruin it fast.

If the hose bursts, you can be blinded!

Always use at least 1/2 inch diameter hose, 5/8 is better, and 3/4 inch is a little better still.

Ag Hose lasts longer then Kuri Tech Hose, but is stiffer, and harder to use.

I was recently made aware of a new roof cleaning hose from Flex-Tech called multi purpose hose.

It has 300 psi  burst strength. It has been used by a florida commercial roof cleaning company who are good friends of mine for nearly 2 years. They got about 6 months out of Kuri Tech Hose!

What kind of roof cleaning hose are you using ?

I still use the Kuri-Tec,..which I find very flexible and kink free.  Will check out the hose mentioned above though. Alot of products are similar in quality,..many times choices of hoses,, cleaners, etc.. comes down to availability and cost. I never wait for hoses to blow before replacing,..we replace ALL hoses  every two years,..connecting hoses, roof cleaning hose, pressure wash hose. So better hoses is always weighed out with this in mind.

Example: Buying 2 wire pressure wash hose compared to 1 wire,..sure the 2 wire is better,..but is irrelevant in my World,..and is just stiffer and heavier to move around.

I had a guy had to go to the hospital we had a leak on a fitting on our roof clean hose he grabed a screw driver torqued down on the metal clamp and the fitting that conected the two hoses i guess was weak it shaterd and blowed up in his face his mouth was open at the time and he got a chemical burn on his lungs not to mention he tasted bleach for several days. If we have a leak no matter how easy it is to just tighten and keep going we take the pressure off first. Some yall may know this this is my first season being dedicated to pressure washing and roof cleaning so were doing more and that was a mistake i learned from

Thanks for the heads up.  We always seem to be in a hurry and things like this happen.  I could have easily done the same thing if I was behind that day, aggravated, or just having a bad day.  Hope your guy is recovering well.

You are doing good Doug, and there are no more mistakes anymore, we just call them learning experiences now :)   In fact, the main reson for this forum is so new guys like yourself don't have to make the same mistakes I, and several others have, trying to learn how to clean roofs.

THIS is why I pressure band all the suction hoses I build using a Band-It tool. I have a professional with the right equipment terminate any chem spray or air hoses. If you are doing them yourself with band clamps and barb fittings, you are doing it wrong if the hose is carrying chemicals under pressure. Hoses are the most critical wear and stressed item of anything in your rig, so using good ones that are properly terminated is critical. Most of the time, all you will kill is a lawn if you get a leak or burst. But in this case, somebody ended up in the hospital and it could have been worse. And always relieve the pressure and get fresh water into the hose if you are going to do any servicing.

This X 1000% if you are dealing with pressure washing hoses.

Okay. I just had a discussion with the President of Flextech and he is going to make me up a 3/4" hose to try out on one of my rigs. We will see how light it is compared to my current 3/4" hose. He did say that from an abrasion resistance standpoint, it is equivalent to the Kuriyama. Also, they DO have a slightly thinner and lighter version which *would* stand up to the pressures and chemicals we use in our industry. But...the problem with using a hose that is thinner wall is that it will tend to collapse when being reeled or hung. This could cause the hose to burst if reeled up without being kept pressurized and then the pump was turned on with the hose flattened.

In any case, I will post pictures and impressions when it arrives. I might also try some of the 1" thinner wall version just to see how it works and whether it is by any chance practical.

As long as All of the hose is pulled off of their reel if they use one should return or close to its original roundness when pressurized.

I emailed Flextech for pricing and never heard back.

The issue comes in when you reel the hose back up. It tends to tighten against the reel if you have it unpressurized, particularly when you have a heavier, larger hose. If you then use the hose with some on the reel, that is when the problem arises. This, at best, creates restriction and doesn't allow for full flow. At worst, the hose can split and burst. This just happened to my air reel hose where the guys were reeling it up unpressurized and it eventually burst on the reel on the first row off the manifold. If you reel it in and then depressurize it, it will loosen and should expand when you re-pressurize.

I did finally get to do a house with it myself. It is freaking awesome! Very much lighter than the hose we were using before, smaller diameter but seems tough. Was worried it would be too flexible which would cause problems on the manifoldless reel with twisting but turned out to be a non issue. I upped the length and it doesn't have seemed to have effected the distance on the pump. Highly recommended.
