Rebel II Pump System..AGAIN!

Recommended Posts

Some of you may remember my earlier failed attempt at building a small, compact air diaphragm pump system earlier this year. Know that I have NOT given up on the idea. What it took was a more efficient pump system and some serious R&D work and research. Well, ITS BACK and I suspect this is going to make a LOT of contractors very very happy! There will be two products coming.

First, the Rebel-DS Deck Spray System. Air diaphragm pump based for reliability and the ability to do infinitely variable output so you can control your spray patterns with a simple nozzle change. Will pump up to 5 GPM if needed, making it the equivalent of a Fatboy II pump... so it makes a great backup roof pump (or even a primary if you are on a very very tight budget). Best of all, this is a module designed to fit on top of the $119 Harbor Freight electric Air compressor which saves you money in shipping since HF has cheap shipping and . Will come with a draw tube and 10' spray hose with quick connect for decks. Perfect for doing decks, fences, gutters and yes...it will do roofs with a longer hose! $349

Second the Rebel II Pump system. Where the last Rebel system was electric based and quite honestly had issues blowing breakers, this system uses a small gas compressor...but there is an OPTION for electric since this is far less air intensive.  This is a twin pump, 10 GPM (open flow) system which means two things. First, it means that you can choose to run only one if you need it for a small job. Second, it has 60% more output than an you have automatic built in backup in case one pump goes down in the middle of a job. But...best of all...it is compact. Really compact. The entire thing will fit in a 2' x 4' area...INCLUDING THE 80 GALLON TANK! Seriously. This means that even you guys with tiny little mini pickup beds can have a roof cleaning system. The diaphragms in the pump are fully rated for SH up to 20%.

Still working out pricing...depends on what kind of deal I can work out with the compressor manufacturer but look for this to come in under $1600

Rebel-DS system pictures should be coming next week. Prototype framing and mounts are finished. It is pretty slick!

I'm going to turn it over to my guys for field testing. It is going to spray SH, Fungicide, and Oil stain.

The Rebel 2 system has undergone highly preliminary testing. It shoots the top of a 2 story house. That one is too much of a prototype to show yet.

So we've done a bunch of testing on the new Rebel DS Deck Spray system I have developed. As I said in my intro to it above, I promised it would make a pretty good backup roof cleaning pump. Well...it turns out it is better than just a backup, this thing out sprays a Fatboy II roof pump. With a measured 5 GPM output open ended through 1/2" hose which is higher than a FB2. Plus you get all the advantages of an air diaphragm pump in terms of reliability, flexibility, self serviceability and material savings with few of the drawbacks (big, expensive, large, noisy compressor), I suspect this is going to make a lot of guys very happy.

We are going to release two versions...one powered by a small electric compressor that will be by a GIANT margin the most cost effective Air Diaphragm pump driven roof cleaning system on the market...and one powered by a very very small gas powered compressor that should come in lower than an electric powered pump system with double the output...INCLUDING a tank. Both will be capable of doing decks, fences AND roofs. The only difference will be you get the choice of whether you want to plug it in and pull a starter cord.

I am looking into making the gas powered one MODULAR, so that the same roof cleaning pump can easily be switched over to then apply deck/fence/cedar stain without having to clean the pump out. So many ideas, so little time!

We are also developing a mini pump system for all you guys who already own a truck/trailer mounted air compressor system but want to also be able to spray decks/fences/driveway acids, or need something small to do either touchups or small areas. It will be hand held. Just need to get some metal and weld it up.

In either case, here is a wholly unscientific, completely unoptimized test of the distance the little Rebel II DS can shoot...

OUTLAW II Air Diaphragm Pump System.

Okay...OKAY! I get it. You guys have been deluging me with emails, Facebook messages...etc. So here, I'm throwing some meat into the cage. This is the test bed prototype twin pump system. I'm getting about 45 ft out of it with about a 10 GPM zero degree nozzle (too busy to put a real nozzle on it like an 040-0). With a real nozzle, there is no reason this shouldn't be a legitimate 50 ft system. The one thing I was really worried about was the compressor keeping up. And while it definitely does lose some distance as the air output drops...soon to be cured by a gas compressor version...it actually keeps up pretty well.

The Pumps. Obviously, as you can see from the video above, this uses FloJet Air Diaphragm Pumps. These are pretty amazing. They are hyper efficient air wise, easy to rebuild and tested to the max. There are about a bazillion of these out there...with a bazillion and one model numbers. Every time you go to a soda machine in a restaurant...Flojet air diaphragm pump (actually they run on CO2). They sell them by the train load to Coca Cola and Pepsi and have a massive testing lab. Yes, the pumps are Poly, but good quality poly that is rated for some pretty harsh chemicals. This being said, just like the electric pumps, you should rinse them out after each job. These use Kalrez diaphragms which are the equivalent of Teflon and totally immune to SH. The rebuild kits are cheap and they are stupidly easy to do. Is it going to last as long as a $$$ Kynar/Teflon Pump? Nope...but you could replace them every year for a few years and still be ahead on money.

Now...PRICING. You all want pricing. Well, here is how it is going to work: the systems s are going to be modular. There will be attachment frames designed for the various compressors along with two different pump modules (single and dual) which are plate mounted. Each module will be pre-plumbed and ready to simply click on and hook in (yes, the plumbing will be more...elegant...on the production version.

Which one should you buy? If you budget is really SERIOUSLY limited, then the single pump is actually pretty good and is perfect for guys who do nothing but small single story work. This is the equivalent of the Fatboy pump in terms of output only with Air diaphragm pump reliability and flexibility. It will also be perfect if you do deck sprays since you will be able to unhook the roof pump, take the compressor off the trailer/truck then click the single pump module in with a different spray hose setup. If you are Just starting out and your budget is ultra tight, then start with a single pump module and upgrade to a dual pump module up the road.

The dual pump module is where it is at for roof cleaning. The extra speed and volume it has, along with the fact it has twin pumps which means each one is working a bit less hard, is ideal. You get a bit more volume and more distance. This can make the difference between getting to that one high peak...and not. Like all Air Diaphragm pumps, there is no penalty for running the pumps with tiny nozzles, the pump can run barely above deadheaded all day with no penalty or problem.

Single Pump Module: $395 with frame.

Stand Alone Single Pump Module with Plumbing. $295

Dual Pump Module:  $595 with frame.

Stand Alone Dual Pump Module with Plumbing. $495

Optional Tsunami Water Separator. These pump seem pretty much immune to icing...but we've not tested them in uber high humidity conditions as of yet. The fact they are so insanely air efficient helps with this a LOT. So...if you find you are icing, then a 20 CFM Tsunami water separator can be added. There is a mounting point tab for it on the frame. They run about $119 and you are a big boy/girl and can install it yourself. Really, it is brain dead simple.

Please note, the price does NOT include the compressor. Really, go down and buy one or order it directly from Harbor Freight. Otherwise I'll have to mark it up, ship it cross country and you'll pay more. HF has stores everywhere and their shipping is cheap. The one you want is this one:  http://www.harborfreight.com/8-gal-2-hp-125-psi-oil-lube-air-compressor-68740.html

When you get the compressor, put the oil in, screw the frame onto the compressor using the provided screws, attach the pump plate mount on, click the air hookup and valve in,  hook up your draw and spray hoses, run a power cord and you are making money. I recommend 12 Ga Power Cable...compressor seems happier.

The Gas compressor driven system will be up in the next few weeks...I'm looking a a few difference gas compressors with the operation word being COMPACT... as will the little tiny deck sprayer (you wood guys are going to LOVE what I have in store for you!).

Spray hose/reel. No, this does not come with a spray hose and reel. Why? Because the vast overwhelming majority of the guys who have contacted me are Electric pump guys who already own a system and are desperate to drop kick their electric. This will slot right in using your same reel and hose. Size wise...I DO recommend a 5/8" hose for the dual pump module. It is a legitimate 10 GPM pump system (open flow) and you'll optimize your distance by using a slightly larger spray line. That being said...if you already own the ubiquitous 200 ft of 1/2" Yellow Kuritec, hook it up and go make money.

There is a complete packaged system in the works including tank, reel, hose, etc. But that will likely happen over the winter.

Orders: I am taking pre-orders now for the electric Outlaw II with shipment in approximately 3-4 weeks. Final production version images will be posted soon. CALL to order. 360-410-9902

Nothing will be charged until the unit is shipped.

I already have the 21 gallon 2.5 hp harbor freight compressor, would this work for the twin pump system?

I'd have to get measurements for mounting on your compressor. For that I'd need the model number and would need to hope the compressor is still current and on display at my local HF so I can get exact measurements for fabricating a mount.

That being said there is a reason I chose that exact compressor and it has a lot to do with why the first Outlaw system failed...amperage draw. The 2.5 HP compressors draw more amperage. The one I chose is a 12 amp draw. Doesn't sound like a lot of difference, but makes a big difference when it comes to blowing breakers. I was using a 6.5 CFM comp with a 14 amp draw on the first version, but it popped breakers. If the customer is home, no big deal. But if they aren't...day is done. This is why I chose that specific compressor. However, I am willing to fab up a mount for yours if you want to run what you brung.
