Wow. I finally decided to sign up for the premium membership and I am sure glad that I did. Ive been looking through many of the post and I am amazed with all the great info. I do however wish there was more info on cedar roofs since I have a very large market for that in my area. Anyway, my name is Colin and I started Big Shot Pressure Washing in 2013 and have been growing rapidly since. We are located near Vancouver, Canada and service "The Fraser Valley". I am excited to exchange ideas and process with all of you during my time here. Hello!!!

There are very very few Cedar Roofs here in my part of Florida, but I pulled this cedar roof cleaning info off the old RCIA Forum, don't know if it is accurate or not  - just use a very light sh mix and add some pine sol to it. When your done make sure you rinse. Thats what bruce does. or you could use some S precarb with lite power washing and apply oxilic acid and rinse again. That is the way its supposed to be done.

Hello,

My name is Brent and I am new to the business of cleaning houses and roofs. I started a mobile detailing business a few years back and realized there is much better money in roofs, houses, and business fronts. I have been studying up on cleaning techniques along with what chemicals to use, to what pressure should be used. I have many questions and I guess the one I’m needing the answer to at this time is about metal roofs. I’m in Texas and it seems that not only are the roofs here plentiful with Gloeocapsa magma but many people are going to metal roofs. I received a call from a customer who wants me to clean her metal roof. She says the roof is colored and she called the manufacture and they said not to clean it with bleach.

So I guess my question is do you still recommend cleaning with a diluted shingle roof solution with sodium silicate as I read in an earlier blog you posted on this site. Or is there a better alternative for colored metal roofs?

Every metal roof is different, but we clean metal roofs every month with bleach here, and have never hurt one.

Hello,

My name is Dennis Eaker and I live in the middle of Missouri. I am now starting to put my roof cleaning rig together to hopefully start cleaning roofs in September. I had a gutter cleaning company for a couple of years but due to some unfortunate business decisions it is no longer a viable company. I found out about roof cleaning back in 2009 and I am now ready for a new business venture, Roof Cleaning of Mid-MO. I still have some more reading to do and some equipment to buy, but wanted to introduce myself.

I am a premium member on the other forum and it has not switched over to this forum yet.

I went ahead and made you Premium Member Dennis. Here is what I think has happened. You paid to be a premium member before you made your forum profile. So, when you paid, the forum did not have any profile to make a Premium Member!  I found your paypal transaction, and it only said "Guest" :)

Now, you can't be a premium member on the other forum, unless you call Gary. He runs that forum. You have already paid to be a Premium Member there.

Hello, My name is Jerry and I presently work for Norfolk Southern Railroad as an Engineer. In my region of Pennsylvania we haul mostly coal .With the decline in the use of this fossil fuel my future with the railroad is in question. I never thought about roof cleaning till recently when I was having an appraiser out to my home. After doing all the normal touch up items on my list I was coming up the road to my home and noticed a 2 foot black line down the center of my 19 year old roof. After noticing my roof, I then started to notice my neighbors in my development.  As I was looking on the Internet for solutions to the problem I happened to find your site. As a railroader I am very familiar with comarodery among crafts, but you guys are impressive.  To take the time to help others in your craft to make a living and to better the overall process of what you do. I am very interested in starting a business in my area in this field which seems to be wide open at this time. I find my self on the way to work and on the train looking at every roof I pass as a potential customer. Any advice as how to get started and the equipment needed would be greatly appreciated. The process is another thing that I would need help with. I look forward to building a reputation in this forum and anxiously await your replies. Thanks

Welcome to both of you. We keep some roof cleaning information hidden to non premium members, for obvious reasons.  If you can afford the 129,00 premium membership fee, I suggest you consider it.  The 129.00 membership fee also gets you one on one question and answer sessions with me by telephone, and far too many other benefits to list here.

Howdy,

I'm James from Beaumont, TX. I've been cleaning roofs since 2004 part-time but went full-time in 2012. I'm currently trying to make a safety manual for my employees and found this website through searching for roof cleaning training. Is there a training program associated with this website? If not, do any of you know of a good training program that I could purchase? Thank you

I have no earthly idea where Beaumont Texas is, but here is a Texas School for you, run by Doug Rucker. Tell him I sent you, if you feel you need hands on training. http://www.pressurecleaningschool.com/

Chris,

I'm located in Southeast Texas, about 100 miles East of Houston and about 20 miles West of Louisiana. I give my employees OJT but I need them to have a written manual and videos, I'll look into Doug Rucker's school and see if it's a good fit. Btw, you may not remember me but you helped me make my first soft-wash cleaning rig when I was in High school in 2004. We spoke numerous times on the phone, met through TheGrimeScene.com but not in person. Just wanted to say Thank You and I'm glad to see you're still kick'n ass in Florida :D

You are welcome. Yes, we are still kicking butt here in Florida, and are as busy as we want to be.

Good to meet you all! Guess I should have posted here first! I'm Garrett. I currently work somewhere I don't like very much. I'm planning on starting an exterior and roof cleaning business with a military buddy out of Spartanburg, SC.

So far I'm loving the forums, it's a wealth of information.

Hello everyone. The names Ever from Oregon. Me and my brother have decided to go off on our own after working for some of the local pressure washing companies. We are not geting any younger:) Im 29 and he is 26 and would like to get into marketing the softwash method seeing as its the only method approved by some of the biggest roofing manufacturers. Would like to get to know as many of you and ready to hear alot of your wise  advice and open to any chit you wanna throw my way:).

Currently at this moment we have not started cleaning any roofs. We are in the process of acquiring the equipment and implementing a solid advertising-marketing-selling plan...First time starting a business and Im really feeling the bubble guts. Specially when we only have about 11,000$ to start out with and no jobs:( But the Lord will provide like he always has.

I would like to know more about using the SH and detergents mixing ratios for asphalt-cedar- rubber membrane cleaning without killing/harming me my brother or clients health. Plus the vegetation......

God bless all of you and your families businesses.
