RCIA'er in a bind. Straight SH on vinyl!!

I received a call from one of the 'ol RCIA guys' from the hay-days. He's in a major bind and has called a few folks for some guidance, including me.  (Not my area of expertise, although I read where F13 might work....)  Anyway, he's not much for computers and forums, so I offered to post the challenge up on the 'net to seek guidance on his behalf.  I'll send him the URL for this thread so that he can pull it up and read any and all suggestions.

In  a nutshell, he runs an air system for roofs and for house washes.  He had a valve set wrong and inadvertently  soaked the house in straight SH vs house wash mix....  (He has no sense of smell due to a surgical procedure.)  The straight SH has left marks all over the tan vinyl siding.

Has anyone else had issues with 'SH scarring' for lack of a better phrase, and if so, any suggestions for this gentleman?  I'd read that F13 might do it, but it would require brushing down the whole house.. Can't always believe what you read on the 'net.  Worse case, replace the siding, but surely there's a way to correct this...  I hope....  On behalf of our RCIA friend from years back, thanks in advance.

  Did it turn it dark?  I remember reading that sh will turn white siding black or brown and that the sun will reverse the damage over time.  Good luck.

I would try brushing it with F-13 to see what it does.  But yes you will have to brush the whole side.

Sadly Jason, the entire house was sprayed with full strength.  Long days with f-13, would still be ,more cost effective than replacing the siding.  I'll reach out to him soon and see if there's been any progress.  Anyone else with thoughts or experience on this, please chime in.  He's a good man.

We seldom if ever see Vinyl Siding here in Tampa, but I wish I had a dollar for every home I have painted because either my employees were careless, or the paint itself was flawed.  Even when I have proved the paint was flawed, the standard answer "It was fine until you cleaned it" was used.  I once fell right through a roof, and we found soft spots from rotten wood, however, the homeowner said "My roof was fine, until you walked on it" . Nowadays, people can and will literally ruin your business, with a bad review, left all over the Internet  

If you clean houses,the last thing you need is a review saying " Don't hire XYZ Roof and Exterior Cleaning, his process damaged my Vinyl Siding"   That kind of a review will cost you 20 times what it will cost to replace some vinyl siding. 

One roof cleaner here in Florida was literally put out of business, because he killed some grass of a Senior Citizen, who called the new media. The old lady gave him the chance to replace the grass, but he drug his feet. This was all over the news " Roof Cleaner abuses Senior Citizen" for nearly 3 days

Removing Bleach Stains from Vinyl Flooring

Q:  How do I remove a bleach stain from a vinyl floor?

A:  It is always helpful to know a little more about the stain.  For example:  is it lighter than the overall color of the vinyl floor, or is it some sort of discoloration?  Do you know how it happened, and the age of the flooring?  All of this is important because vinyl flooring is made with a “wear layer” according to my local flooring company.  I stopped in to talk to them since I really don’t have much experience restoring damaged vinyl floors.

 I do know that vinyl flooring can be safely disinfected with a solution of ¾ cup Clorox® Regular-Bleach per gallon of water that is applied for 5 minutes, rinsed, and allowed to air dry.  However, we never recommend applying full strength bleach to any surface – it should always be diluted first. 

My local flooring company said that undiluted bleach would have to be left on a vinyl floor for quite an extended period of time before causing any discoloration due to protection from its wear layer.  Just as with fabric, I expected that bleach damage to the floor would be irreversible.  The flooring company confirmed this, and unfortunately did not have any tips for restoring the damage.  Their recommendation was to remove the stained area and patch it with additional flooring material that was hopefully saved when the vinyl was installed. 

Has anyone had similar issues?

Straight SH wont scar or mark vinyl siding. It sounds like what your friend did was disturb the oxidization that occurs on the vinyl siding. Not fun, but it is curable.

Ive washed about a billion houses and through forgetting to flush the transfer lines on occasion, blasted straight for a bit. Nothing happens to the vinyl. 

I would be watering the hell out of the landscaping though.

don't buy anybodies mixing system until it has been proven to work. Don't fall for everybodies half assed junk they say will make your life easier.

I don't think he bought anyone's "mixing system"...  He simply threw the wrong valve on his rig.

FRIEND - if you're keeping up with this thread, I know of someone else working on a very similar issue.  They'll be performing an experiment in the next day or two.  I'll call you if it works.....

Ted: What was the resolve to this issue? I had a simlar problem where a hack doused a customers house with straight SH on a sunny day and it really made the oxidation pop.  Brushing with Dragon Juice wound up being the solution for acceptable (not perfect) results.

There is no easy solution. Ive been testing chem's for ever to no avail. a strong degreaser and a pressure washer will get most of it off. Scrubbing helps as well. Not an easy chore. Back to my  la-bor-atory
