mmason Report post Posted November 8, 2015 Because its getting so cold up here in St Louis. And of course the hoses are becoming super stiff.Do you think wrapping them with a waterbed heater is a good idea.Just overnight.Maybe even wrap the tanks to ensure you have warm water in the morning. Roof Cleaning Virginia Report post Posted November 8, 2015 Why would one need warm water in the morning?
mmason Report post Posted November 9, 2015 Because it is 45 degrees here at 10:00 in the morning. Shingles are cooold. Warm water is alot better than a unusually hot mix

No one I know uses straight chlorine and how are you applying your warm water. Surely not with a pressure washer.

mmason Report post Posted November 9, 2015 Jeff no disrespect to you or this form. But that's why I come on this forum in the past and that's why I'm on it right now discussion with group of a roof cleaners ,discussing Possibilities in answering questions to make roof cleaning better for everyone Where is everyone? Is everyone serious like you say on the other side? This form is definitely not like it used to be. You tell everybody use the search bar you need to use the search for yourself and look at all the replies and how people used to try to help each other. I don't want to pack it in I want to extend my season as long as possible. Pakistan was not the reply I was hoping for .Or expecting From this form
Jeff Report post Posted November 9, 2015 No disrespect felt,..but there is a time to pack it in. And that IS the proper advice. You won't find much here or anywhere else about cold weather roof cleaning. If you don't like that answer I don't know what to tell you,..because that's what most of us do when it gets too cold.Jeff
mmason Report post Posted November 9, 2015 Jeff I guess more than anything else it's just the lack of discussion.ItsFrustrating and disappointing From this form. All my attempts of conversation have been replied by one person. These discussions cannot be over everyone's Head.At least I hope not
Roof Cleaning Virginia Report post Posted November 9, 2015 We ran our business year round for the first few years, picking and choosing the days in winter where it wasn't too hard on us, or our equipment (ie hoses). The only reason we shut done now for winter, is because after 9 months of working our asses off, we take the winter off, by choice for a much needed break.. (RV is out front now as I've started to prep it for a nice loooong trip already.)If you want to run year round - just do it. But repeating mis-information from the 'net, on the 'net like it's gospel doesn't set too well with some. Has a roof even been treated even in mild weather, much less in cold weather?(So this newbie comes along and tells me how to be successful in cold weather. Ha! That's laughable.......... Go back and re-read the posts above for yourself.)There is a quote that comes to mind that many of the new guys might want to take to heart - Seek first to understand, then to be understood. In other words, listen/research more, and repeat misinformed BS less :-)Network, befriend others in the industry, reach out to other new businesses and share lessons learned, tips, secretes, marketing etc. You'll get out of it, what you put in to it. Sure seems like a lot of the newer folks just want 'answers'.
Jeff Report post Posted November 9, 2015 Not sure what you mean by over our heads,...but,..there is enough information on this board and the old RCIA board and PWI to answer any common questions regarding roof cleaning. What you're trying to do doesn't sound like anything anyone else has ever really discussed on here. Maybe somewhere in a small thread,..but nothing with any real information.Jeff
Matt Report post Posted November 9, 2015 I'm not a roof cleaning expert mmason, so I probably can't help you with any advanced roof cleaning questions, but consider this for a moment. Roof cleaning is gaining some popularity, but is not grossly over-saturated with information and product visibility like say, carpet cleaning or lawn care. In lawn care, I could research the most obscure piece of equipment that I had never even heard of, and 600 people had already written a 10 paragraph review on it. With roof cleaning it's a little different, but that's a pretty neat area to develop something and become a contributor yourself. Maybe there is an additive or emulsifier that makes want you want to do a lot more plausible, but it's one of those obscure things that 600 people haven't written a 10 paragraph review on yet. There's actually a lot of areas in this service for growth when it comes to compiling information and lists. Consider my own post looking to gather peoples results on exposures to SH at various concentrations. As far as I know, this is the first time this question has been asked with the intent of actually gathering tangible data, but sometimes it's fun to go out and try to create your own informational post. It doesn't have any responses yet, but maybe one day it will, I should have probably bumped it up.
Jeff Report post Posted November 10, 2015 Although there has been much "innovation" in roof cleaning over the last 10 years,..most things now are just tweaks at best,..in fact most ideas are just variations of things we already know or do, and not necessarily better,...I've said it NUMEROUS times,..Many like to add their own twist to their business and feel like they are pioneers,..I've done it too.,..it's fun to use your very own ideas too make money. Roof cleaning is VERY simple, and much over thinking has been done in the last few years,.again,..also by me. But as of late I've been content knowing my methods are simple and effective and no need to keep adding new ideas. Doesn't mean I don't think about it,Ha,Ha,..But there are many other things I can do to make improvements in my business as a whole. Analyzing to the point of confusion is counter productive.Jeff 1 Roof Cleaning Virginia reacted to this
