  1. My name is Jeff Mathieson of Tartan Window Cleaning serving mid Vancouver Island. Much of the moss removal is at the 7 to 10 year growth. Leaving it to this point takes significant greater efforts and chemical to correct resulting in higher costs. Safety harness anchor installation, often 2 applications of chemical, and much more labour. At the first sight of moss call us! Your roof can be sprayed from the roof perimeter with the aid of ladders to kill the growths and removal can be achieved with sun and rain cycles. Please visit our web site and call anytime from 9-9 if you have any further questions. www.tartanwindowcleaning.com Tartan Window Cleaning250 218 3099 cell/text806 Sand Pines Crescent Comox BCV9M 3V2https://www.facebook.com/Tartan-Window-Cleaning-1187592167932303/
  2. So we had another harness save. My main roof guy was coming down from a roof and his ground man had just come down off the ladder on a 2 story house. When the ground man came off the ladder, he shifted it. As soon as my roof man stepped into the ladder, it went out from under him. He fell about 5 feet and was stopped up short by his fall arrest system attached to the safety anchor they had just installed (my guys are trained to be harnessed until their feet are on the ground. He was able to lower himself down using the descender we invested in. The next day he was sore and bruised up from the harness taking the impact, but it was FAR better than the alternative of hitting the concrete from 2 stories up. Guys...it is REALLY easy to become complacent. It is really easy to think you are never going to fall from a roof. But it was just last year that one of our fellow roof cleaners was killed on the job site. As great as this business is, never ever forget that it is a dangerous profession. A fall can seriously injure or kill you. Think about what that would do to your family and friends before you step up on that 2 story roof. Safety anchors are not that hard to install and safety equipment is not that expensive in light of what not having safety equipment *could* cost you. Operating safely and stressing it to your clients shows professionalism and sets you apart from the competition. Be safe out there.

  5. Here is a nice video by my friend Bruce Sullivan about protecting plants and landscaping when cleaning roofs. Protecting your customers property is job one for any roof cleaner. Even the best job can be spoiled, if you fail to protect plants. Any questions ?
  6. We received a call from an owner of a home in Bellingham WA, wondering if there was anything that could be done for his cedar shake roof. Honestly, upon first glance, even we were dubious. The roof was over 30 years old, full of moss, debris and lichen. It had been treated with zinc sulphate moss killer which is terrible for cedar roofs. There were curled, cupped sections. Old zinc strip hung in strips from it. We were fairly sure it would at the bare minimum need a ton of service or worse, replacement. But... Cedar once again surprised us. It turned out the shakes were properly installed. They were thick. They were well fastened. After two stages of restoration, this is how the roof looks today with one more final oiling stage left... Once again showing why we love cedar shake roofs! Contact us at www.deadmoss.com/cedar.html or contact us at 360-831-9494 for all your cedar shake cleaning, repair and restoration needs in Whatcom, Skagit, Island, Snohomish, San Juan and King Counties. 10. Barrel tile roofs are popular here in Jacksonville, Florida and they get dirty fast! There are hundreds of neglected high dollar, nice barrel tile roofs around town that are just plain black and nasty! These types of roofs look amazing when they are cleaned, and they're one of the best types of roofing you can get, but not when they're dirty. Tile roof cleaning can restore the appearance of your roof tiles to like new, if done properly. It's one of the fastest and best ways to improve your curb appeal. Before you hire just anybody to clean your tile roof, there are some things you should consider. Barrel tile roofs require zero pressure processes, and close attention to detail, but that's not all. Many tile roof cleaning jobs require special equipment, specialized cleaning mixtures, and strict care for landscaping, decks, windows, and other exterior surfaces. There are dozens upon dozens upon dozens of roof cleaning companies in Jacksonville, Florida. The funny thing is that there is only one RCIA certified roof cleaning company actively cleaning roofs in the Jacksonville area. There are also dozens upon dozen upon dozens ideas and opinions and thoughts and musings on how to clean a roof, but there is only ONE way certified professionals clean tile roofs. The RIGHT WAY. Unfortunately, some of the methods employed because of these ideas and opinions are unsafe for your roof, landscaping, home's exterior, and more. Some of the people employing these unapproved processes don't even know they're doing it wrong, and RCIA certified roof cleaning technicians know this all too well. The nice thing is, hiring those same certified roof cleaning companies will ensure you never have to worry about the problems this can cause. There are a lot of good companies doing great work out there too, but if you want to ensure your Jacksonville, Florida tile roof cleaning is done properly using safe practices, hire Ultrasoft Pressure Washing LLC and our certified roof cleaning experts will take great care of you. Call us today at 904-304-0810 Look at the results on this beautiful tile roof.
  11. Got a dirty roof? Live in Calvert County Maryland. Give us a call. 240-355-1110 Gutterdogs are RCIA Certified Non Pressure Roof Cleaners, serving the greater Calvert County MD area. We have been fully trained and Certified in all phases of Shingle, Metal, and Cedar Roof Cleaning. We never, under any circumstances, use any form of Pressure Washing on any roof we clean. Here is a funny video we had made, that assures you of the total safety of our RCIA Certified, no pressure , roof cleaning process. Why should you get your roof cleaned by Gutterdogs in Calvert County Maryland? Well the obvious reason is the appearance of the roof. What you may not know, is that a non pressure roof cleaning helps your roof to last longer! How does keeping your roof clean in Calvert County Maryland, help it to last longer??? The black stains on your roof, and the moss and lichens, are eating away at your shingles granules, shortening the life of your roof. Why pay 10-15 thousand dollars for a roofing contractor in Calvert County to replace it, when for a fraction of the price of total replacement, you can easily maintain the integrity of your roof. Even have the roof possibly last past the warranty!
  12. ARMA has revised their guidelines lately. The original guidelines suggested the use of some TSP, with Clorox Bleach diluted by up to 75 percent. Now, ARMA has dropped the TSP suggestion, and advised to increase the strength of the bleach solution to 50%. Neither of the guidelines will clean a roof, unless you have the time to spray the roof over and over and over again LOL, 50% Clorox Bleach will not clean a roof, and neither will the original ARMA suggestions either. Actually, the original ARMA suggestions will work better, and here is why. In the SH, there are 2 components present, depending on the PH of the solution. One is the Hypochlorite Ion, and one is the Hyperclorus Acid. The Ion does the cleaning, and Acid does the killing (disinfecting). The Higher the PH is, the more Ion you have present. The lower the PH is, the more killing power you have. So, the more you dilute the bleach, the lower the PH is, and the more killing power you get. I noticed way back when, that when an ARMA solution was applied to a roof, it did not clean up right away, but over time it did clean. This was because the weak ARMA solution killed the algae, and the rain washed it off, over time.
  13. We wanted to share this awesome example of just how dramatic and appealing a roof cleaning can be. The black streaks on your roof don't always mean you need a new roof. Just because it's ugly, doesn't mean you show throw down $10,000 to make your property look great again. Years of mold, algae, lichens, and even moss growth can be removed using a simple, safe, zero pressure roof cleaning method, restoring your roof to it's natural appearance and color. Our RCIA certified roof cleaning company utilizes the right approved cleaning methods to erase years of ugliness and make your property shine again. Roof cleaning results are instant and can last for years before you have to clean it again! Regular maintenance can help ensure your roof lasts like it should by removing destructive organisms that can severely shorten the life of your roof system. If your roof is maintained well, and not beyond it's serviceable lifespan, our technicians can restore your curb appeal in just one visit! There are also some added benefits to roof cleaning. For instance, we find that driveways, sidewalks, patios, and other things directly under rain runoff areas are the most heavily infested with algae! The blackest concrete we see is usually under a downspout, and it's no wonder why. The algae that causes the black streaks on roofs make streaks because the spores spread downward with the rain. These photos are a great example of this. You can see clean areas below the dormers that stick out from the roof. We often see these clean areas under skylights, attic vents, plumbing vent stacks, and other protrusions from the roof. Due to their being less runoff, there is also less algae and black streaking in these areas. When that water runs down to concrete below, it gets dirtier than other areas that don't receive it. Keeping your roof clean means everything below it that is affected by its runoff will stay clean longer as well. Removing these streaks makes your roof last longer, lowers heating and cooling costs, and a proper roof cleaning will do more for your curb appeal for less money, than even painting the entire house would do! Look at these fabulous roof cleaning results below. If you find yourself in need of a qualified, certified, educated professional company to help you with your roof cleaning project in or around Jacksonville, Florida call Ultrasoft Pressure Washing today 904-304-0810 or visit our roof cleaning website and request a free quote.
  14. Here is an example of a beautiful tile roof cleaning. This particular roof spans nearly 8,000 sq. ft. and had just been cleaned 1.5 years before the photos below. The reason for sharing is that this roof really shouldn't require cleaning again so soon, but it was cleaned improperly. The previous "roof cleaner" used high pressure, and actually stripped the glazing from these tiles. The damage done is irreversible, and leaves the tiles looking dull, compared to their original appearance. You would think that pressure washing a tile roof might be alright, because tiles are tough. The issue is that they are not meant to withstand such high pressure close up blasting. Inexperienced roof cleaning companies who use pressure washers to clean roofs are causing lasting damage, voiding warranties, and they don't even get to the root of the problem. Some may use a high pressure wand and blast away at individual tiles or shingles, while others may pressure wash using a concrete surface cleaner. Presumably they dial down the pressure, but even that is still wrong and can cause unwanted damage. The fast swinging arm of a surface cleaner can break tiles if it comes into contact with them. Surface cleaners are designed for flat surfaces, not rounded tiles, so it won't even blast all the algae off evenly. Speaking of algae, that's the part these high pressure roof destroyers are missing. Some may use "shampoos" or other weak cleaners, but they still rely on damaging high pressure blasting to clean your roof. The cleaning doesn't last very long, because it's algae, moss, lichens, and other organic contaminants that cause a dirty roof. If the cleaners you're using do not kill these organic invaders, their roots and spores will remain no matter how much pressure you blast them with. This means they will infest the roof again quickly, essentially negating the good they may have done by voiding your warranty with high pressure! Ultrasoft Pressure Washing LLC is a qualified, RCIA certified tile roof cleaning company serving Jacksonville, Florida Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida and surrounding areas. Our zero pressure process meets all RCIA roof cleaning guidelines, and will safely restore your roof's appearance and your property's curb appeal. Since our cleaning uses RCIA approved methods that actually kill and remove the source of the problem, your roof stays clean longer. Instead of inflicting more damage and voiding your warranty like pressure washing your roof does, we return your roof to it's original appearance safely and nearly instantly! Have a look at how our zero pressure cleaning method made this roof look like new again! For the best pressure washing and roof cleaning in Jacksonville, Florida and surrounding areas, call Ultrasoft Pressure Washing today. 904-304-0810
  15. Sullivan Roof Cleaning was chosen to clean the cedar roof on this 12 million dollar summer home in Charlevoix, Michigan. The great northern weather is harsh on a cedar roof. We just finished this cleaning May the 8th and had to work between the ever changing weather patterns this time of year. The attached photo is the front or lake side view but the whole roof was over 7,000 sq. ft. With the tree cover and overcast sky it is hard to get a good picture of the true results. The home owner was very pleased with the results and has asked us to schedule a maintenance program going forward. We are pleased this home owner decided to chose Sullivan Roof Cleaning over all the other service providers interviewed for this cedar roof cleaning service.
  16. Another Cedar Shake Roof Cleaned and Maintained in Quilcene, WA by Peak of Perfection Roof Cleaning. This small cedar shake roof on a residence was cleaned, with low pressure, high volume compressed air, followed by application of our cedar cleaning solution to remove the moss, algae and heavy lichen covering. Several missing shakes were replaced with new and some loose ones were re-nailed. For information on how your cedar shake roof can be maintained, contact us at 360-831-9494 or see our website at www.deadmoss.com Serving Belling to Seattle and the Greater Puget Sound Area.
  17. Ah yes , the price wars. As a contractor when I set upon a price I base it on many factors. As a shopper you may feel you want the best deal. BUT is the lowest price the best deal. Come on, you know the answer to that. It is no. I did a roof cleaning job the other day for a set price, the owner had said," I paid the same thing last year but the guy also did my house and driveway" ( the guy who looked like a pro, Pressure washed the roof after being told not to, He peeled off some paint from the door step, He broke an outside lamp and he never finished the house. What do you think this poor service was from? His price was too low, His experience was either non existent or his morals were. I redid the job for a higher price and well it came out great. I took the time to do it right, I charged accordingly. I am running a business, this means I have insurance, I pay my taxes, JUST like you!!! Why would you hire someone that doesnt. AT neilson cleaning we are not the cheapest and we are not the most expensive, We charge accordingly. My price includes my professionalism, quality of work, my legal business status. If it is not in your budget to hire a pro, then save up a bit. you will be glad you did. www.neilsoncleaning.com John Neilson (386) 956-3406
  18. Roof Cleaning chemicals explained January 14, 2013 By Kleen llc There are many roof cleaning companies claiming to use biodegradable, or Eco-friendly, All Natural, Non-toxic, and of course, “Organic products. What does all this mean, and is it any better than the solutions used by the best RCIA certified roof cleaners ? The thing about the RCIA roof cleaners is that it is widely known what Is used. It is not hidden behind words like, non-toxic, Eco-friendly, or the big on, environmentally safe. Companies claiming all this do not let it be known what they are using. Let’s discuss what some of these terms mean. Biodegradable. Sounds great doesn’t it? The claim is often associated with environmentally friendly products. What exactly does this mean? I would define it as being able to be broken down by natural processes into more basic components. By this definition, most chemicals are biodegradable, the only difference would be the amount of time it takes to break down. Even nuclear waste is biodegradable. This claim about cleaners really does not mean much. Won’t Harm the Environment. What does this even mean ? Lead is said to harm the environment by some, but it is naturally occurring in our world. By some standards of this statement it could be said about lead. Then we need to know if the company making this statement is talking about the cleaners they are using won’t harm the environment, or is it the bottle it came in, or the way it was manufactured. There are many chemicals that will not harm our environment but that does not mean they are good for you. Poison Ivy will not harm the environment, but it will harm you. What about the venom in a rattlesnake? This claim is a good thing to strive for, but do the companies claiming it have the information to back it up ? All Natural. This is the best. This is not a legal or regulated term so it can be used for anything. Most times it is used to describe a cleaner that is manufactured from plants. But, if it is manufactured, is it natural, and is it good for us? Cocaine is from a plant. Did you know five of the seven most deadly known compounds occur in nature. “All Naturalâ€. This statement does not describe, or tell us anything about the product. What does all this mean? Terms like these really have no merit. The important thing to consider is; does the company you are talking with disclose what they use, or do they cover it up by saying some of the terms above? It is widely known what RCIA certified roof cleaners use to clean with. You can find it on the internet, and we will always tell our customers what we use. With some of the best roof cleaners in the country, the RCIA is always researching the best way, and the best chemicals to do the job.

  21. Recently I was asked what is going on with asphalt roofs. They appear streaked with black and growing things on them. Here is my response. In the late 70's-early 80's we had a petroleum shortage here in the U.S. Long gas lines, odd and even license plates determining when you could buy fuel etc. At that time asphalt shingle manufacturers were having trouble getting petroleum to use in their products, asphalt shingle. They had to come up with a new formula for their product so they added fillers to take the place of the missing petroleum. They added limestone dust to the base and coated with small amounts of asphalt. Calcium Carbonate,a food product was also introduced and used in shingle manufacturing. These fillers seemed like a good plan at the time. The problem with using these fillers they learned a few years later is they are food for algae, moss and lichen. All these organisms slowly eat away at the shingles seeking more food. The Shingle manufactures first noticed the flaw in their plan on roofs in the lower states. The higher humidity increased the growth dramatically. The manufactures had to come up with a plan for cleaning their product without voiding their own warranty. This method gave birth to the asphalt roof cleaning industry. Call it climate change, global warming, whatever, but the fact is it is more humid in the northern states now then it was 20-30 years ago, enabling the spread of the algae to flourish on roofs throughout the U.S. After all these years of complaints and lawsuits the Shingle manufacturers are once again changing the formula for their product. Rather then go back to the old formula they've decided to just add another mineral to the existing formula. The outcome of the new formula is still unknown. by Sussex County Roof Cleaning 973-948-2700 http://www. sussexcountyroofcleaning http://www.sussexcountyroofcleaning.com http://www.rcia.com http://www.newtonpainter.net Add Blog EntryManage Blog
  22. The many benefits of Roof Cleaning start with protecting your investment. A roof left untouched, but growing algae, lichen, and moss is drastically eating away at your investment in your roof, leading to premature wear, degranulization, and eventually a leaking roof. Many homeowner insurance companies are threatening to cancel policies due these types of damage. An infested roof, even if only appearing as black streaking on the surface, can raise your heating/cooling bills substantially. These streaks, as well as other forms of algae or moss hold moisture and retain heat. This causes heat build up in your attic spaces causing your climate systems to run more often. Maintaining your roof saves you from replacement, saving thousands of dollars and protecting the environment by keeping materials out of local landfills. On average a certified roof cleaner can clean your roof for about 10% the cost of replacing your roof. Many roofs that are maintained properly far out live there expected life span given by the manufacturer. Perhaps the biggest benefit in a homeowner's eyes is curb appeal. An ugly, infested roof is an eyesore. Let's face it, nobody wants to own the ugly house in the neighborhood. Now imagine trying to sell that house. If potential buyers don't like the outside of the house, they're not even going to look at the inside. In the buyer's eyes, if the exterior isn't maintained the entire interior is put into question. A home maintained with good curb appeal will sell much faster with fewer issues in the sales process then a home with bad curb appeal. 24. Do you wonder what those black streaks and stains on your roof are from? It’s not from age, tar, jet fuel, tree sap, acid rain or dirt. It’s caused by an algae called Gloeocapsa Magma. As the algae eats and multiplies, the colonies become more dense. The dense area of the algae colonies are evident by the black streaks and ugly stains which are a protective sheathing that the algae excrete. This air born algae is more prevalent as you travel south in warmer and more humid climates. Over the years the algae has been spreading across the states. That is why it seems to be more and more noticeable here in the mid-west region. The effects of the algae are not only unsightly but very costly if not treated. If your roof is infected by algae or other organisms such as moss or lichen, have a certified roof cleaner (non-pressure spray system) inspect it as soon as possible.
