Quick connects and nozzles
Shingle Brite replied to Triad Roof Cleaners LLC's topic in General Discussion
You can also keep them in a tub of antifreeze when you not using and they will work fine. Just make sure you keep it sealed or inaccessible to pets. They love the taste but it kills them. Better yet, just buy a better Qd. I buy the stainless ones from Powerwash.com for about $4 each and have ZERO sticking issues and I don't do anything to them. -

The no glove thing is huge but I wear shorts and short sleeves all the time. I figure having a heat stroke is way worse than getting a little mix on me every now and then. -
Agreed. Water the living helk out of the area and put a bunch of gypsum pellets anywhere the mix can go and water that in as well, preferably before you start cleaning. It isn't a fail safe but does help. Main thing is to set the expectation with the customer that some grass may have to die no matter what you do if they want their ugly as sin roof to look pretty again. I think if you make it a week with no plant damage you are in the clear.

Make sure the respirator is rated for chlorine. It might block the smell but still not be safe. The link below is for gloves. They are cheap, durable and protect your hands completely. They are out of stock currently, thanks to me :) http://www.restockit.com/the-safety-zone-black-neoprene-chemical-resistant-gloves-num-grfblg.html?prd=1&refterm=GRFBLG

Want input on trailer layout

Hopefully you put the compressor all the way to the front. You will find tongue weight like that is just fine. -
Excellent advice! Let them make the decision. If they prefer to have an ugly roof, then so be it. The world is full of dirty roofs and more are getting dirty every day. One job won't make you but it could break you.

group purchase from Univar in Ohio/PA
Shingle Brite replied to ROOF REFRESH's topic in General Discussion
That is a middle of the road price, unless you are in the Deep South. I paid $2.79 a gallon all of last year, but switched suppliers and am getting 4-8 drums at a time now for $1.88 delivered. Until you can buy in quantity you are pretty much at their mercy, but the price IS negotiable when you do. -
Running a roof cleaning biz out of your garage is perfectly acceptable. Cooking up a miracle batch of chemicals is a different story in my opinion. Not surprisingly "proffessional" was misspelled on the site. :)

That website is very amateurish with misspelled words. My guess is they make the stuff in their garage when they aren't working at their real job and I doubt they have actually sold any. This doesn't mean it won't work but I have my doubts.

Go to Fiverr. Five bucks will get you a professional looking design fast. Seriously. -
On a rare occasion, a roof mix or even a house mix will leave noticeable spots where it touched a painted surface especially a darker one like chocolate brown. I believe this happens because the paint may be oxidized and old and because the surface was not pre-wetted. I have no reservation treating almost anything with my mix but I do take precaution with older paint, especially on garage doors. On the other hand, on occasion it may appear that you streaked paint on wooden siding when in fact, your mix simply caused the hidden algae to stand out and the parts you hit with more mix actually cleaned where it touched making it look streaked. This can be very alarming the first time you see it but spray the rest of the siding and it will look great! Below is an extreme example, but neither the homeowner or myself realized how dirty the siding was until I accidentally hit it while spraying the gutters. I was just doing a gutter and soffit cleaning for them, but I wound up cleaning all the siding on 3 sides for no charge because I couldn't just leave it. When I showed the HO the difference they were so thrilled they tipped me $75 despite my objections and said they had been planning on repainting soon but it looked so good now they don't need to!

I believe the reasoning they gave not to use tape is that a piece of it could break loose and clog up a spray tip. While this is theoretically possible, to give up the functionality, low cost, widespread availability and ease of use that Teflon tape provides because it may eventually cause a very minor inconvenience is ridiculous in my opinion. I use it and have had zero issues with it.

What is the advantage of having a picture the size of my entire screen in a signature? -
No idea as I don't use either one.

Exposure to Various Concentrations of Sodium Hypochlorite
Shingle Brite replied to Matt's topic in General Discussion
I had lots of issues with my air system in the beginning. The main culprit was I had the air lines completely backwards. I suggest you review your setup. It should be longest air hose from ac to water separator to filter/regulator then short air hose to pump. Like I said, mine was completely backwards and it would stall, freeze up, pump like mad, not pump at all etc. -
Website looks awesome! Great before and after pictures. FWIW, I suggest you lose the "pressure washing" under your logo immediately. It contradicts your statements about non-pressure and nowhere else on your site do you mention pressure washing.

I agree that proper marketing is important, but I am pretty sure Bruce didn't mean to put everything you have AND everything you earn into marketing. I believe he meant to put 70% of your start up fund into marketing. FWIW, I believe that what you are really selling here is YOU! Google Adwords, Facebook, etc are all part of the answer but IMO the main thing you can do is PERSONALLY get in front of as many people as possible. Visit every realtor office in your service area and get them to let you do a presentation to the staff if possible. Have a quick power point presentation if possible or at least before and after photos you can show them. Follow up regularly with them by email and personal visits so they keep you in mind. Drop off some donuts every now and then. Become a committed member of networking groups like BNI where you will meet a group of people that will recommend you and send you referrals that already want your services. Visit everyone of these networking groups in your area. There are probably lots of them. These people will become a sales staff for you. Get rid of the commissioned sales guy and YOU knock on as many doors as you can. Set a goal to knock on 20 doors a day and do it! You might be surprised how many jobs you will get out of it. Again FWIW, in my opinion, the key to your success will be if you can sell you, not if you can sell roof cleaning. I believe that hiding behind paid advertising and other people instead of personally building relationships and trust with your potential customers and referral partners is a mistake. It may be out of your comfort zone to do these things and it is for me too. However, not succeeding is not in mine or your comfort zone either and I promise you these people will find what you have to say very interesting! You will be speaking of something I assume you are both knowledgeable and passionate about and it will become very easy quickly.

OPINIONS ON BANNERS PLEASE
Shingle Brite replied to Allstar Exterior Cleaning's topic in General Discussion
I think it looks good. I would suggest you consider only talking about the thing that sets you apart from almost all other exterior cleaners-roof cleaning. People have extremely short attention spans and no one wants to read more than a few words so you better grab their attention quickly. Get too wordy and they won't read any of it. Also, "specialingizing" is misspelled. -
House washing info needed
Shingle Brite replied to Alcbarnesville's topic in Softwash Systems For Roof And Exterior Cleaning
You aren't getting much response because this is a non-pressure roof cleaning forum. Most guys probably don't even have a pwasher. I do, but I only use it on concrete and will probably get rid of it soon and just focus on non-pressure roof and siding cleaning.
