  1. We use Gain for our surfactant. After some research, I found out it was oxidation. Yes even vinyl oxidizes. The good news is that the owner notified me a few days later to inform me the spots faded away!
  2. It's been a while since I last dropped in. I trust everyone is busy! Here is a question for you. The crew cleaned a composite roof a few weeks ago. The owner just emailed me a photo of a metal roof in back (perhaps over a porch). She stated "We might need to hit the zinc roof over the back with some water as well for it has an acid burn look to it". I don't believe hitting it with water is going to do anything. Suggestions?
  3. Guys, This vinyl siding that is about 20 years old was soft washed. After it was pretty much dry it looked very clean. However latter in the day the siding looked spotty / blotchy. It's faint but you can see it. We have not experienced this before. As you can see on my fingers it has a film of chalk. Does any one know to effectively clean this?
  4. Also it is typically sold at 12.5% available chlorine by weight. If it's fresh, it can be as high as 15%.
  5. We've used both both metal and nylon straps.
  6. Does your roof have dark gray, black or greenish color like this house shown below? Is there moss growing on your roof like on this house? If so, deterioration has begun and must be addressed immediately. Just like a dentist appointment, putting it off will only lead to further decay until it is too late and a costly replacement is the only option. Why Should You Care? Your cedar roof was expensive to install, will be expensive to repair and eventually will be even more expensive to replace. It’s in your best interest to maximize its useful life by scheduling a routine maintenance cleaning treatment before moss, lichen, mold, algae and fungi ruin your cedar roof. Have your ever had your cedar shake roof inspected? If it is five years or older, it is due for a checkup and cleaning. Just like our teeth, cedar must also be cleaned and maintained. A well maintained cedar shake roof should last 40 to 60 years. However, if it is not properly cleaned and maintained, the cedar shakes will eventually decay. Do we use power washing? No. Power washing relies upon brute pressure to clean a surface. Cedar is a soft wood and power washing can do more harm than good. Our roof treatment offers a “non-pressure” cleaning process which is designed specifically for cedar shake roofs. Our non-pressure cleaning process stopped the present deteriorating condition by removing the infestations. The cedar shake roof was returned to its intended functioning condition. No costly repairs or roof replacement was needed. Cost of treatment, in most cases, is less than 5% of the replacement cost! Fortunately the owners of this Naperville house called Advantage Roof Cleaning Company for their cedar roof cleaning before it was too late. To read more, go here. To contact us, go here.

  8. I do not own one but I am aware of it. It is make of aluminum which does interact with SH. So just keep that in mind.
  9. Guys I need your valued opinion. When I first went into business, my intent to was clean exclusively roofs. I named the business Advantage Roof Cleaning Company. Today, as most of you do, we clean more than roofs specifically siding. We see more and more demand for siding and exterior cleaning. Last year I noticed more customers make a comment that they did not know we clean siding, in addition to roofs. Yes our website and marketing materials includes exterior soft wash. Our name gives an impression that we clean only roofs. It would likely take a lot of rebuilding but do you believe changing the name would pay off? An example would be Advantage Exterior Cleaning or Advantage Exterior and Roof Cleaning. Obviously this is no small decision since again it would require significant work.
  10. I don't think it is artillery fungus. There is no mulch near siding. In fact, much of it is over driveways and concrete porches.
  11. Upon further research I may have identified it as spider poop! If you go to the link below, you will find an image nearly identical to what I saw. ths.gardenweb.com/discussions/2400238/spider-poop
  12. Cedar shakes and shingles have been used for centuries. Cedar wood has proven its longevity in diverse weather climates. Cedar shakes and shingles contain oils that make them naturally resistant to decay. Cedar’s elegant look, insulating property and ability to hold up to wind and impact makes cedar shakes and shingles a great choice for roofing and siding material. You will find many houses with cedar shake roofs in communities such as Oak Brook and Hinsdale in DuPage County, Illinois. A cedar shake roof can be expected to have a life span of 40 to 60 years. A long life begins with its installation. Proper installation will help maximize the life of cedar shake roof. On the flip side, improper installation will help to shorten the life of the cedar shake roof. Ensuring the maximum lifespan of a cedar shake roof does not stop with proper installation. Ongoing care and maintenance is equally import and a must! Here are a few cleaning and maintenance tips to help preserve your cedar shake roof: Tree branches hanging over the roof should be kept trimmed away. This will prevent leaves, small branches and other debris from building up and keeping the roof wet. The overhanging branches also block the sun from keeping the cedar dry. Damp cedar promotes moss, algae and fungi infestations. Additionally overhanging branches help make easy access for animals and insects to the roof. Go here to read the rest of the article. In addition to Oak Brook and Hinsdale, DuPage County, we service the entire north and west suburbs of Chicago.
  13. In a townhouse subdivision, nearly every building has black spots on the vinyl siding. They are present from the ground to about 8 - 10' up. The townhouses are two story with composite roofs and gutters. I did not have any roof mix with me. I did have a bottle of Purple Power and tried that. The black spots on a small test area came right off. They seem to have suddenly appeared this year. The Property Manager is perplexed. Has anyone seen these before?
