We do not use a pressure washer to clean roofs! We rarely ever need to step on the roof. We clean roofs by spraying on a proprietary wet foam. The detergent we use has 1 part sodium hypochlorite (bleach) which is used to kill moss, algae, and lichen. The detergent is left to soak in and kill these organisms at the root. Sodium hypochlorite is the product use by all local municipalities. It is added to our drinking water to keep it free of bacteria and viruses. Naturally its a lower amount than is used on a roof, but our point is that it is safe yet effective in neutralizing mold and mildew. Roof cleaning in Spring Lake is a fairly new service. These stains are the result of limestone that the roof manufacturer started adding to the shingle roughly 20 years ago.
