Roof Moss Removal With A Bristle Brush

Hey Yall,

I have been told by roofers that using a brush of any kind will damage the asphalt shingles.  I have been using them for 1 year now and not had any complaints.

Can anyone comment on this technique.

Roofers will also tell you that a roof needs to be replaced when it actually just needs to be cleaned. We get a significant amount of moss in the Northwest. There is nothing wrong with using a brush to gently take off the bigger clumps, but if you attempt to remove every bit of moss on the roof then there is potential for damage to the shingles as moss has roots. Better to brush off larger clumps and treat the rest chemically. Also make sure to educate the homeowner on your process and the reasoning behind it.
