Rain time is the BEST time.
    Tartan Window Cleaning
Serving Nanaimo, Nanoose, Comox Valley, Campbell River and all areas in between.
Rainey season is an excellent time for roof moss removal, gutter cleaning, siding cleaning.
We need about a 1.5 hour window to apply treatment and to allow for dwell time. Then bring in the rain!
It aids on the rinse resulting on some of the best results over the year, and the real bonus is the chemicals uses in treatment have virtually no adverse effects on your surrounding plants and foliage .
We have great rain gear and are ready and willing to attend to your home to get it ready for the holiday season.http://www.tartanwindowcleaning.com/   Look at our website, FAQ's give us a call if you have any other questions or concerns. 250-218-3099

Just had word that on the a homeowner was refused insurance on a 1.1 million property due to the mossy condition of the homes roof.  Without the full removal of moss, the home would not have qualified for mortgage insurance.
Insurance companies are getting much more critical of a homes condition and the trends are to visit and inspect the home for approval whereas in the past policy's could by obtained over the phone with the exchange of documentation of the home.   In speaking with the Insurance Bureau of Canada rarely does a homeowners policy cover damage due to neglectful maintenance.
Often internal home rot and mould can go undetected for some time only becoming apparent at the time of roof replacement resulting in a more costs.  Keeping your roof free of moss is critical in the upkeep of your home. Moss removal can often be conducted with simple maintenance treatments.  The heavier the moss the more costly to remove.  Call us to discuss your home.  Jeff Mathieson 250-218-3099  www.tartanwindowcleaning.com

Thanks for endorsing this process Virginia Roof Cleaning.  Sometimes I question some of the chemistry some folks put together.
I am a little apprehensive to take on a cedar roof in my area as many are cedar shakes not shingles.
I have been is attics of shake homes and the amount of daylight visible, shakes are nailed to horizontal strapping -  I am in wonder how they ever stop the water.
Walking on the shakes isn't a good thing due to the brittleness,  and I would never want to rinse any direction  but in the flow of the roof.
Shingle, I would attempt. Shake, unless I had a experienced roofer for support,   I feel a little vulnerable liability wise.

Mark I have had the same lack of response.  Although $3000.00 US  was a little rich for my cause.
I found this the other day from http://shop.pressurewasherproducts.com/ dig around the site they have a good list of knowledge which is totally free.
Hope this helps. Maybe this could be added to the content of the site

Cedar Shingles, Wood Siding, etc. (2 STEPS)
DO NOT USE Sodium Hypochlorite or Bleach.  Sodium Hypochlorite or Bleach will permanently damage the wood breaking down the cellulose or structure of the wood and remove the natural colors and tones.

    1.  FIRST STEP~CLEAN
6 ounces of Sodium Percarbonate per gallon (Sodium   Percarbonate purchased locally in a 50 pound bag, white powder)
1 ounce of Caustic Soda or Sodium Hydroxide (Purchased locally in a 50 pound bag, white powder, granules or flakes)
         Slo Mo Softwash Surfactant
         Mix THOROUGHLY
         Rinse THOROUGHLY
    2.  SECOND STEP~NEUTRALIZE
DO NOT USE SAME SPRAYER FOR BOTH STEPS.  Combination of two chemicals in first and second steps will cause combustion to occur.
6 ounces of Oxalic Acid Powder or Granules 99% per 1 gallon of  WARM or HOT Water  (Purchased locally in a 50 pound bag, white powder;  Active ingredient in Rust-Aid)
         Slo Mo Softwash Surfactant
         Mix THOROUGHLY
         Rinse THOROUGHLY--

    Why Clean my roof?

In the moist climate of Vancouver Island rarely does a home’s roof live up it’s life expectancy.
The first stage deterioration usually begins  with a airborne bacteria called Gleocaspa Magma a black staining this causes your roof to absorb heat. The added heat causes the shingles to curl. Asphalt shingles are covered with a top layer of particulate calcium and ceramic which is to reflect heat.  Soft washing is recommended by asphalt shingle manufactures.  The calcium is food for algae, lichens, fungi, mosses, moulds and once established can raise the shingles, causing leaks and prevent the natural flow of water off the roof. On terracotta, tile, or ceramic roofs the surface gradually breaks down as contaminants penetrate the surface making the tiles prematurely brittle and leaking. Metal roofs the paint and finish does not last and leaks.  Functionality, aesthetically, and the cost of replacement is why we must maintain our roof.  Maintenance usually commonly is  performed every 5 years. Give us a call at 250-218-3099 9-9 7 days as week.

    Roof Maintence

My name is Jeff Mathieson of Tartan Window Cleaning serving mid Vancouver Island.
Much of the moss removal is at the 7 to 10 year growth.  Leaving it to this point takes significant greater efforts and chemical to correct resulting in higher costs.
Safety harness anchor installation, often 2 applications of chemical, and much more labour.
At the first sight of moss call us!
Your roof can be sprayed from the roof perimeter with the aid of ladders to kill the growths and removal can be achieved with sun and rain cycles.
Please visit our web site and call anytime from 9-9 if you have any further questions.

Specific to stink bugs soap, once it hits their body, dehydrates them to dead quite fast.

I do not know if any of the members have stink bug infestations in your areas.
Just straightened out an entire home with 10%SH mix with heavy surfactant.
Focus on the cracks, jambs, crevices on the home.

Due to the amount of stink bug infestations in our area, we have found our soft wash solution and application process, eradicates and help prevent further occurrences of those stinky little .......
Removing them from the exterior of the home helps prevent them joining you inside.

  15. Jeff Mathieson Tartan Window Cleaning added a post in a topic: Metal Roof cleaning

Sometimes you have to go with what is available in your local.  I am cleaning a metal shingle roof.  Mild shingle mix, 1% SH? Or should i use a degreaser?   There has been some discussion on not using a surfactant due to the slippage?  I am using a man lift on this one but do not want to put anyone in harms way. Then to  rinse I only have access to thiosulfate  as something to neutralize  what strength to mix and apply. Can I just put the thio in a garden fertilizer sprayer to apply? Rinse with water first then neutralize?  Very large home and I do not possess multiple tanks to apply other solution mixes.  I am primarily cleaning eavestroughs the roof build up is mild and does not encompass the entire roof .   Any thoughts appreciated
